After the establishment of COOPA – Associação Aldeia Cooperativa de Artes in February 2016, this inaugural issue of Coopazine is published within the scope of an international fanzine showcase. The publication reflects and records the various activities carried out, such as music concerts, living statue gatherings, but also the tastes and concerns of the association. In this first issue, several short comics appear, authored by Fábio Veras, André Pacheco, Tiago Pimentel, Sandra Pires, and Abel Raposo. There are also texts signed by Rui Carvalho and Fernando Ferreira about the publication of the book “O Infante”, inspired by manga, authored by Daniela Viçoso. Geraldes Lino presents a brief overview of the national fanzine scene and provides an exhaustive listing of comic fanzines published in Portugal in 2015 and 2016. António Caeiro writes about the festival “Cantigas do Maio” and the Paio Pires Popular Orchestra. Thina Curtis offers a review on fanzine publishing in Brazil. There are also poetic texts by António Leonardo and Paulo José Miranda. The industrial landscape and problems caused by pollution resonate throughout many pages of this publication.
