Details:
animals! presents a collection of images and texts without an apparent connection. the texts are taken from captions of popular science books aimed at families, common in the 1970s, addressing themes related to adolescence, nutrition, and aging in humans. the images depict anthropomorphic animals and humanized animals in constant interaction.
within this apparent chaos, a message emerges: instinct is gone, appetite remains. man tries at all costs to separate himself from the rest of the animal kingdom, and in this effort forgets the essential: his own nature. yes, we too appear in linnaeus’ tables.
opening the volume is a text excerpted from the 1872 work the expression of the emotions in man and animals by charles darwin.
in animals!, josé feitor deepens the concept of graphic appropriation, indiscriminately using others’ images and texts in a unique combination. chance and concept coexist in this graphic project.
