Publication gathering various texts, illustrations, and comics by Leonor Hungria. The works, written in English, were created between 2014 and 2019.
Assuming a neo-Victorian and Gothic style, the first work, “The Burnt Tree”, is an original story about a girl who liked to play with fire and the curse that condemns her mother. Within the text, some words appear highlighted with different fonts, causing a deliberate disruption in the reading flow.
Next comes “The Black Cat”, a tribute to Edgar Allan Poe, who is represented in an illustration on the opposite page.
Following are two short stories involving strange creatures, bizarre and mechanical little beasts.
“Vanessa’s Valentine” is a story of unrequited love between two high school students with names starting with the same letter, which theoretically had everything to work out but descends into uncontrollable violence on Valentine’s Day, with Edgar A. Poe again appearing as a guiding figure.
To finish, two comic strips, “Beasties” and “Obgs”, starring the author and a kind of imaginary figure that observes and questions everything.
The first edition had a print run of 10 copies; the second and third editions had print runs of 25 copies each.
