- Following the establishment of CoopA – Associação Aldeia Cooperativa de Artes in February 2016, this inaugural issue of CoopAzine was published as part of an International Fanzine Exhibition. The publication reflects and documents the various activities organised by the association, including music concerts and a gathering of living statues, while also expressing its interests and concerns.
This first issue features several short comics by Fábio Veras, André Pacheco, Tiago Pimentel, Sandra Pires and Abel Raposo. It also includes texts by Rui Carvalho and Fernando Ferreira, the latter discussing the publication of O Infante, a manga-inspired book by Daniela Viçoso.
Geraldes Lino contributes a brief overview of the Portuguese fanzine scene, together with a comprehensive list of comics fanzines published in Portugal during 2015 and 2016.
António Caeiro writes about the Cantigas do Maio Festival and the Orquestra Popular de Paio Pires. Thina Curtis provides an overview of fanzine publishing in Brazil. The issue also includes poetic texts by António Leonardo and Paulo José Miranda.
Industrial landscapes and the problems caused by pollution resonate throughout many pages of this publication.
