- "The bodies drawn by Esgar Acelerado form an intoxicating compendium of temptations. Their biting physicality disarms the tedious severity of conventional morality, sweeps aside the superficiality of judgement and summons us to surrender to an exalted urgency that challenges the secret restraint of our emotions.
Appropriating familiar figures and scenes from sacred iconography, he offers us, through a plundered eroticism, a feast of another religious dimension, in which he presents himself as its new devotee.
Accompanied by the Devil, lord of this realm of fierce impulses, Esgar, under the auspices of Hieronymus Bosch and the extravagant dreamlike imagery of the traditional figurines of Barcelos, constructs an altar of delights that invites us to overcome fear and the body's bewildered submission — qualities so dear to the meagre vitality and expressiveness of the sheep in the Portuguese fold.
Drawing on the finest tradition of the satyrs, the artist has demonstrated an original visual eloquence that reaches its most accomplished expression in Liturgia do Delírio ('Liturgy of Delirium')."
