the bodies drawn by esgar acelerado are an intoxicating compendium of temptations. their biting physicality disarms the tedious severity of good manners, annuls the superficiality of judgments, and summons us into a fall of exalted urgency, challenging the secret reserve of our emotions. appropriating well-known figures and scenes from sacred iconography, the artist offers us, through a raw eroticism, a feast of another religious dimension, in which he presents himself as its new worshiper. accompanied by the devil, lord of this realm of wild impulses, esgar concretizes, under the auspices of hieronymus bosch and the dreamlike excess of barcelos figurative art, the construction of an altar of delights proposing the overcoming of fear and the stunned surrender of the body — so dear to the diminished nerve and gestural capacity of the sheep in the lusitanian fold. drawing from the most distinguished tradition of satyrs, the author has shown an original plastic verve that reaches its most consummate brilliance in this liturgy of delirium. — joão rios ninety-three copies were produced, signed by the author (reference m/f 20), with a special edition of 20 copies that also include a giclée print (m/f 29) and eight risograph prints (m/f 21 to 28). texts by nuno pereira de sousa on the website bandas desenhadas.
