ARTIST’S BOOKS
The FANZINETECA DE AVEIRO holds in its collection a carefully selected array of artist’s books that are regularly showcased in various cultural and educational venues, allowing the public to discover and appreciate up close these unique works that blend art, design, and editorial experimentation. We have given this traveling cultural project the name “SALTIMBANCOS ARTISTLIBROJ”.
SALTIMBANCOS ARTISTLIBROJ
This is a traveling exhibition of artist’s books and mail art that brings together diverse perspectives on the book as an object of artistic creation and a space for graphic expression.
In this exhibition, visitors can appreciate sketchbooks, book-objects, artzines, and mail art projects from various countries.
The commonly accepted definition of what constitutes a book is questioned and reimagined by each artist who uses this medium as a form of creative expression.
The collection on display belongs to the Fanzineteca de Aveiro and Mailart.pt and includes valuable contributions from Teatro e Marionetas de Mandrágora as well as private collections of some of the artists featured in this exhibition.

It took place from April 24 to June 21, 2025, at the Library of Escolas da Gafanha da Nazaré Secondary School, in the municipality of Ílhavo.
The exhibition featured 59 national and international artists who contributed various works, including sketchbooks, book-objects, artzines, and mail art projects.
The collection on display belongs to the FANZINETECA DE AVEIRO and MAILART.pt.
Additionally, it includes contributions from Teatro e Marionetas de Mandrágora and private collections of some of the artists represented.
The hosting institution was Agrupamento de Escolas da Gafanha da Nazaré.
