- This is the fanzine of the Agrupamento de Escolas José Estêvão (José Estêvão School Group). Entitled Laboratório Plano, it was created as part of the National Arts Plan (Plano Nacional das Artes).
Laboratório Plano is a space dedicated to artistic creation. It places particular emphasis on investigation, research, experimentation, discovery, exploration and risk-taking. Its aim is to foster creative freedom and encourage independent publishing and the self-publication of personal projects developed by students, both inside and outside school.
This is issue zero of Laboratório Plano. It emerged from an invitation extended by the school's National Arts Plan team to designer Miguel Correia, a former student of the school, founder of Zine City and editor of the Ultraviolenta fanzine, to lead an introductory activity exploring the world of independent graphic publishing.
The students of class 11H created and presented Miguel Correia with a collection of stencils, from which he subsequently selected a number to shape issue #17 of his own publication.
Through a collaborative creative process involving Miguel Correia and the students, it was decided that the central pages of the fanzine would be left blank, allowing each student to create a unique and original work in their own copy.
Issue zero of Laboratório Plano was then assembled from all the works created by the students of class 11H on those blank central pages, reproduced here in stark, high-contrast black and white.
This marks the conclusion of an initial phase that provided an opportunity to test creative dynamics, experiment with methodologies and establish guiding principles for future issues of Laboratório Plano.
