- This publication brings together a collection of texts, illustrations and comics by Leonor Hungria. The works, written in English, were created between 2014 and 2019.
Adopting a neo-Victorian and Gothic aesthetic, the opening work, The Burnt Tree, is an original story about a young girl who enjoys playing with fire and the curse she brings upon her mother. Throughout the text, certain words are emphasised through contrasting typefaces, deliberately disrupting the reading experience.
This is followed by The Black Cat, a tribute to Edgar Allan Poe, whose portrait appears in an illustration on the facing page.
Next come two short stories featuring strange creatures, peculiar little beings with bizarre, mechanical forms.
Vanessa's Valentine tells the story of unrequited love between two secondary school students whose names begin with the same letter — a relationship that, in theory, has every reason to succeed but descends into uncontrollable violence on Valentine's Day, with Edgar Allan Poe once again serving as a guiding literary presence.
The publication concludes with two single-page comics, Beasties and OBGs, featuring the author herself and a kind of imaginary figure that observes and questions everything.
The first edition was limited to 10 copies, while the second and third editions each had a print run of 25 copies.
