the néscio project was born with the purpose of making a graphic exercise of observation and commentary on the daily life of the country. this idea undoubtedly stems from the conjunctural context experienced in portugal since the 1990s: economic stagnation, exacerbated by the persistence of the mental frameworks of illiterate catholicism and the distressing feeling of "this isn’t going anywhere," has created a void that projects and expands across various spheres of portuguese life. what the growing order of newspaper commentators (another symptom of decline) calls an "identity crisis."
on the other hand, many graphic artists born in the aftermath of april and the precariousness rarely address the country and its problems in their work, often preferring to deal with the digestion of cultural and aesthetic references from european and american cultures that marked our generation.
the result proves that it is worthwhile to transform portuguese daily life into an inexhaustible source of inspiration, both regarding content and images.
