- Derby is the result of a collaborative project between Imprensa Canalha and the Mike Goes West printmaking studio. It is an entirely screen-printed publication with a distinctive approach: the images were created directly onto the printing screens using brushes.
For the illustrators, this presented a considerable challenge, as the technique, known as the direct method, demands great spontaneity and allows little room for correction. The result is a series of immediate, precise drawings.
Ten illustrators were invited to take part in the project: five from Lisbon — André Lemos, João Maio Pinto, Filipe Abranches, Jucifer and Luís Henriques — and five from Porto — Marco Mendes, Miguel Carneiro, Nuno de Sousa, Carlos Pinheiro and Zé Cardoso.
