- The Néscio project was conceived as an exercise in graphic observation and commentary on everyday life in Portugal. This idea undoubtedly emerged from the social and political climate that has prevailed in the country since the 1990s: economic stagnation, compounded by the persistence of an illiterate-Catholic mindset and the distressing feeling that "things are going nowhere", has created a void that permeates and spreads across the most diverse aspects of Portuguese life. This is what the growing ranks of newspaper pundits (another symptom of decline) refer to as the "identity crisis".
On the other hand, many graphic artists born in the aftermath of the April Revolution and the PREC (Ongoing Revolutionary Process) rarely address Portugal and its problems in their work, often preferring instead to assimilate and reinterpret the cultural and aesthetic influences of European and American cultures that shaped our generation.
The result demonstrates that everyday life in Portugal is an inexhaustible source of inspiration, both in terms of content and imagery.
